Roger March lived and worked in Japan for twelve years until he returned to Australia in 1990 and took up the positions of Lecturer in the School of Marketing and Deputy Director of the Japanese Economic and Management Studies (JEMS) Centre at the University of New South Wales. In Japan, Roger worked as a business consultant for Australian companies entering the Japanese market, operated his own Tokyo-based translation and corporate communications company, worked as editor of the Liberal Democratic Party's English-language newspaper and was for three years the Japan correspondent for two British media publications reporting on the Japanese television industry. He was co-founder and twice-president of the Australian Business Association in Japan, an organisation assisting and supporting Japanese and Australians in business and cultural matters. While president, Roger organised the first public seminar for foreigners engaged in small business in Japan. He is the author of two business books in the Japanese language published by Japan Times Publishing. Soon after returning to Australia, Roger completed a Masters of Commerce (Honours) degree in tourism marketing. In 2003, he was awarded a doctorate (PhD) with a thesis examining aspects of consumer behaviour in international tourism. Roger has been commissioned by some of Australia's leading tourism organisations to undertake research into inbound tourism. (See Client List.) Utilising his extensive business experience in Japan, Roger also regularly runs negotiation and intercultural communication workshops for Australian and Japanese organisations; his clients include Marubeni Australia, Telstra, Asia-Australia Institute, Global Interface, Research Institute in Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) and Canon Australia. Roger travels to Japan regularly. He speaks and reads Japanese fluently and holds the highest proficiency - Level 1 - in the JETRO Business Japanese Examination. |
